March 2020, "Community Choice" Project of the Month

For our March "Community Choice" Project of the Month, the community elected CudaText, a cross-platform text and code editor.

Cudatext offers a syntax highlight for 180+ languages, a lite interface with tabs and JSON config files instead of options-dialog. It also supports Python plugins.

We caught up with the main author of CudaText, Alexey Torgashin as he shared some thoughts about the project's history, purpose, and direction.

Once upon a time there was a war that waged between those who were for open source software and those who were against it. Now that war is long over, and according to a recent Red Hat survey open source has definitively won– however, that doesn't mean that everything is just perfect.

Today in Tech

On this day in 1956 Chinese-American computer engineer and inventor An Wang sold his patent for magnetic core memory to IBM. The core memory is considered one of the most important inventions in computer history. IBM had started using Ferrite cores in their systems, but the same core had already been patented by Wang. This led to an interesting legal battle, which ended in IBM purchasing the patent from Wang for $500,000. Wang later used this money to build up his own computer company, Wang Laboratories.
